Materials Needed:
2. Yarn (color of your choice)
3. Your own fingers on your hands
1. Take the ball of yarn and pull the end of the yarn. Place the beginning thread of yarn between your thumb and index finger of your left hand so the short piece of yarn comes over your palm.
2. Hold the yarn tightly between your thumb and index finger. Now take the portion of the yarn that is dangling behind your hand to weave through your fingers. Start weaving 1.) behind your index finger, then 2.) in front of your middle finger, 3.) behind ring finger, 4.) and in front of your pinky. Wrap around your pinky and weave 1.) in front of your ring finger 2.) in back of your middle finger, and 3.) in front of the index finger.
3. Keep hold of the same string and wrap around all four fingers, bringing the string from the back of the hand over the front of your palm. Let that piece of string dangle behind your hand.
4. Now using your right index finger, lift up the unweaved yarn so that you can grab the yarn wrapped around your left index finger.
5.Pull the yarn and lift over left index finger.
6. Do the same thing for each finger (middle, ring, and pinky).
7. Repeat steps 3-6, starting with the index finger each time and ending with your pinky.
Tip: After pulling the yarn up and over the pinky, pull on the long string (connected on yarn ball) to keep it tight around your left fingers.
8. You will see the lei forming in the back of your hand. You may every so often, want to pull the end of the short string to straighten the lei out to make sure it doesn't clump up.
9. You may stop when you have reached the desired length of your lei. It is recommended to stop threading the lei at the same equivalence as your arm's length.
10. Using scissors, cut the yarn (connect to the ball of yarn) about 5-6 inches out.
11. Take the newly cut end and pull it through the loop of your left index finger going from bottom up. Repeat with other fingers, always going from bottom up.
12. Once you have put the end of the lei through all the loops of the fingers, keep hold of the yarn with your right hand as you pull the loops off your left fingers. Pull the yarn until you see a knot form.
Congratulations! You have finished making your own yarn lei!
